Electronics output showed double digit growth in both 2006 and 2007 slowed in 2008 with growth of 5.8% but remained positive in 2009 on the back of companies locating computer and handset production in the country. Computers, peripherals and parts ( EDP) accounted for 22% of production in 2009. Output increased by 12% during the year on the back of rising exports. Recent investment by the Chinese company Lenovo, the company opened a new US$40 million plant in Apodaca (Nuevo Leon) in February 2009 and the presence of Foxconn the world’s largest electronic manufacturing services provider boosting output. The production of colour televisions has grown appreciably to make the consumer video equipment sector the largest, accounting for 37% of the total in 2009. Output for radio communications equipment accounted for 20% of production in 2009 and showed growth of 16% on the back of strong growth in exports.
