Augmented Reality (AR) via a mobile phone refers to augmentation of what the end-user views with the screen. This is based on overlaying data onto the screen view, which may present a view of the real-world via the camera and points of interest and/or information that is put into the view, virtually, but not really existing in the real-world.
Augmented Reality (AR) represents a potential large opportunity for 4G (and beyond) wireless communications as more than just a means of entertainment. Augmented Reality can be used for remote work forces, public safety applications, and more. AR solutions rely upon various technologies and supporting infrastructure including data access (preferably 4G and beyond), smartphone or other wireless device (such as tablet PC with wireless access), presence and location determination, navigation, mobile marketing, and more.
This report introduces AR and provides analysis of commercial and law enforcement applications. This research also analyzes some of the challenges and opportunities in developing AR solutions and applications.
