Worldwide Hard Disk Drive Component Quarterly Update: 3Q11 Summary and Outlook

This Pivot Table provides an update to worldwide hard disk drive (HDD) component quarterly shipments for 3Q11 and a four-quarter demand outlook. This document examines the market and opportunities for hard drive components and presents the total market demand broken out by HDD OEM by technology for each component. The HDD components included in this Pivot Table are:

• HDD disk media
• HDD disk substrates
• HDD head gimbal assemblies (HGAs)
• HDD read/write recording heads and suspension assemblies

Please note that IDC continues to evaluate the HDD industry's recovery effort from the flooding in Thailand. Because of the wide range of possible HDD unit shipment volumes for each HDD vendor over the next four quarters and the subsequent impact on the HDD component industry, IDC is not providing the normal detailed pivot table as part of this quarterly deliverable. Rather than publishing a detailed pivot table forecast with the uncertainty caused by the flooding, we felt it is prudent to provide top-level shipment and forecast data only.
