Automotive radars fall into ultrasonic radar, millimeter-wave radar and lidar. The detection distance of ultrasonic radar is usually not more than 5 meters, mainly suitable for parking assistance. Compared with cameras and lidars, the more popular millimeter-wave radars are the only sensors not subject to weather and light. Millimeter-wave radars outperform cameras in terms of velocity and distance detection overwhelmingly, while cameras are better than millimeter-wave radars at object classification and recognition, but inferior to lidars. In 2015, the global market size of automotive millimeter-wave radars hit about USD1.936 billion; it is expected to reach USD2.46 billion in 2016 and USD5.12 billion in 2020, with the most remarkable growth potentials in the field of electronic products.

In automotive PCB field, powertrain holds the largest proportion, about 32% for the time being, including mainly Engine Control Unit, Starter, Alternator, Transmission Control, Fuel Injection, and Power Steering. For xEV, complexity, high voltage, high current and high temperature of Inverter and Converter pose extremely high requirements on PCB. Powertrain seizes over 50%, followed by Body with about 25% (primarily Lighting, HVAC, Power Door & Seat, Keyless, and TPMS). LED lighting, which enjoys a high share, is highly demanding on PCB, usually adopting MCPCB (Metal Core PCB). Thirdly, Safety systems, consisting mainly of ADAS, ABS, and Airbag, make up about 22%. The last is Cockpit systems, mainly covering Instrument Display and Infotainment.

Global automotive lighting market size was USD25.3 billion in 2014, and is expected to grow by 10.8% to USD28 billion in 2015, the highest growth rate since 2010, and reach USD30.1 billion in 2016, a year-on-year rise of 7.5%. There are two reasons for significant expansion of automotive lighting market. One is substantial improvement in the penetration of LED. As the price of LED chip continues to drop, more and more companies adopt LED to make headlamps.
