In terms of electronics production Hungary is the second largest producer in CEE with 19% of the region’s output in 2015, the country losing its leading position in 2014 following the sharp decline in the production of mobile phones since 2010. As a result communications and radar accounted for 8.1% of the total in 2015 (37% in 2010), behind computing (25.5%), control and instrumentation (24.2%) and consumer video (18.5%). As highlighted, the sharp decline in mobile phone production has been one of the principal reasons behind the decline in overall electronics production in Hungary since output peaked at US$17.97 billion in 2010. Between 2010 and 2015 the production the communications and radar equipment segment has declined by 88%, output falling by 55.9% in 2015 (47.2% in local currency). A further decline of 20% is forecast for 2016 but output should then stabilize.
