Electronic output increased by an estimated 3.9% in 2015 and compared to growth of 3.6% in the prior year. A decline in the consumer segment was offset by growth in the component and in the other equipment sectors except medical. Electronic components accounted for 60% of electronics output in 2015. Malaysia is one of the world’s leading centers for semiconductor packaging and assembly, with output for the key semiconductor sector increasing by an estimated 8.7%. In line with the slowdown in the semiconductor market output is expected to be stable in 2016 but any further deterioration in the outlook could see a more pronounced decline in the second half of the year.
