The global market for smart glass-based products increased from $883.1 million in 2009 to $1.2 billion in 2010, and was valued at nearly $1.6 billion in 2011. The market is forecast to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 21.6% from 2011 to 2016, reaching global revenues of nearly $4.2 billion in 2016. The transportation and aerospace sector accounted for 91.4% of the market in 2011 with revenues of $1.4 billion. This segment is estimated to expand at a CAGR of 22.1% during the next five years and reach a value of $3.9 billion by 2016. The construction sector accounted for 7.2% of the market in 2011 with revenues of $113.3 million. This segment is forecast to grow at a CAGR of 14.6% during the next five years and reach $224.3 million by 2016.
