South Korea on the back of its leading position in semiconductors, mobile communications, computing and advanced consumer electronic products is the fourth largest electronics producer globally with output of US$111.6 billion in 2016. After declining by 6.4% in 2015 electronics production rebounded in 2016 increasing by 3.4%, the increase primarily the result of the strengthening global semiconductor market in the second half of the year but also rising output across the industrial sector. Growth in 2017 is forecast to accelerate to 9.0% in 2017 with once again the semiconductor sector the main engine for growth.
