The 2015 iNWEMI Roadmap

The 2015 iNEMI Roadmap is now on sale. As the only industry roadmap that looks at the entire supply chain, the iNEMI Roadmap delivers in-depth information about the challenges and opportunities facing the electronics manufacturing industry over the next 10 years. It also provides direction regarding the technologies required to meet the ever-evolving needs of this rapidly diversifying and growing industry.

The 2015 iNEMI Roadmap is the most comprehensive roadmap published to date by the International Electronics Manufacturing Initiative (iNEMI). The 2015 Roadmap was developed by 19 new Technology Working Groups (TWGs) (and one carryover) in response to inputs regarding technology needs from representatives of OEMs in five Product Emulator Groups (PEGs).

2015 Product Emulator Groups (PEGs)

1.    Automotive

2.    High-End Systems - Servers, Computing, Netcom (Network, Datacom & Telecom)

3.    Medical

4.    Office/Consumer

5.    Portable/Wireless

The PEGs define OEM requirements for their respective product sectors, anticipating product technology and business-related needs over a 10-year horizon. These needs are presented in each PEG chapter, using key attribute spreadsheets and text according to templates that are furnished by the iNEMI Technical Committee (TC).  Each PEG has a Chair or Co-chairs and as many group members as needed for a broad-based view of that emulator’s scope (usually 2-5 individuals).

The TWGs use the OEM requirements detailed in the six PEG chapters (as applicable) to prepare each of their roadmap chapters, detailing where their respective technology stands today — and is expected to progress over the next 10 years — with respect to the stated needs.

2015 iNEMI Roadmap Technology Working Groups (TWGs)

1. Board Assembly

11. Modeling, Simulation & Design Tools
2. Electronic Connectors 12. Optoelectronics
3. Energy Storage 13. Passive Components
4. Environmentally Sustainable
    Electronics
14. Photovoltaics
5. Final Assembly 15. Power Conversion Electronics (new)
6. Interconnect PCB - Organic 16. RF Components and Subsystems
7. Interconnect Substrates - Ceramic 17. Semiconductor Technology
8. Large Area Flexible Electronics 18. Solid State Illumination
9. Mass Data Storage 19.  Test, Inspection & Measurement
(carry over from 2013 Roadmap)
10. MEMS/Sensors 20. Thermal Management

The iNEMI Roadmap has become recognized as an important tool for defining the “state of the art” in the electronics industry as well as identifying emerging and disruptive technologies.  It also includes keys to developing future iNEMI projects and setting industry R&D priorities over the next 10 years.
